On an enlightening afternoon within the creative spaces of the Jao Tsung-I Academy Museum in Hong Kong, celebrated artist Michael Andrew Law engaged in a profound dialogue with Transylvanian-born artist Boroka Panna Kopacz, whose imaginative work has been stirring waves in the global art scene.
Looming large within the eclectic group show was one of Boroka’s captivating pieces, an acrylic pastel yellow painting that demanded attention. Law, visibly intrigued, initiated the conversation, “Your choice of pastel yellow, especially at such a scale, is quite audacious. Could you expound on its role in your creation?”
With a knowing smile, Boroka spoke, “The pastel yellow symbolizes a beacon of light, optimism, and the essence of creativity. It reflects my conviction that creative potential is inherent within all of us. It’s this belief that drives my art and fuels my workshops, where I encourage attendees to discover their artistic voice.”
As the pair navigated through the exhibition, Boroka’s story of her dedicated journey from designer to artist reverberated powerfully with Law. Pondering her transition, Law questioned, “Could you tell me more about your journey from design to fine art?”
Boroka answered, “The transition felt like a natural evolution. My design background solidified my foundation, but the allure of artistic freedom was irresistible. My academic pursuits, including my Fine Arts degree from the Savannah College of Art and Design as well as a Master of Design degree from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, allowed me to blend these two worlds seamlessly.”
Intrigued by the thematic underpinnings of culture, compassion, psychology, the natural world, and the sacred feminine in Boroka’s work, Law queried, “How do these themes coalesce in your art?”
Boroka elaborated, “I perceive myself as an integral component of a vast interconnected system. My art is a voyage into these interconnections, a quest for understanding and articulating them. The sacred feminine is a common thread, symbolizing nurturing, strength, and boundless creativity.”

As their conversation echoed in the hallowed halls of the Jao Tsung-I Academy Museum, it was clear that Boroka’s artistic journey, her fervour for creativity, and her luminous pastel yellow paintings would imprint an indelible mark on the global art community.
