Hikari Shimoda (b.1984) paints a world where cuteness and horror coexist, and fantasy meets reality. She pays attention in every details and uses symbolic elements connected to the Japanese culture. Children are often featured with heroic costumes such as Superman and “shojo” that reveals the problems of people in today’s society struggle with from within.
